It's well worth paying a visit to Jenny's Blog, if you haven't already, because it's bursting at the seams with amazing projects that are bound to inspire.  So much so that I had enormous trouble deciding which to CASE!

It's been a long time since I made an explosion card - so I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a special Christmas card for my husband.  I was particularly taken with the way Jenny has made her elements 3D so that the scene can be viewed from any angle.

A 3D Christmas woodland scene - the inside of the explosion box card
I wanted to create a woodland scene, so I added another 12" square layer inside my basic box but trimmed and folded in the corners rather than removing them altogether.

I then masked and stamped each section separately using black ink and the Winter Woods stamp set.

The sparkle doesn't show up that well in the photograph but I added some hills to each of the main sections cut from Glimmer paper and cut a 3 7/8" square of Glimmer Paper for the base of the card.  Before I attached this base to the box, I cut slits in appropriate places through which I slipped the Window Sheet strips holding up the deer and tree.

Each deer has two layers with the strip of window sheet sandwiched between that anchors the deer to the base.

The winter woodland scene can be viewed from any angle
For the tree, I cut the tree from the Christmas Staircase thinlits three time and adhered the edges together to form a sort of teepee effect.  I then cut a bunch of the pine branches from the same die set - I think I used five or six per side.  I randomly brushed on some Frost White Shimmer Paint to those branches.  After the tree was positioned and the base firmly glued to the box, I adhered the branches to the tree, one side at a time, starting at the bottom and overlapping a bit as I worked towards the top.

This Christmas explosion box is made from 12" square Real Red cardstock and an A4 sheet of Shaded Spruce

I decorated the outside of the box with the Under The Mistletoe Designer Series Paper and decorated the lid with a Foliage Frame label cut from Old Olive cardstock and assorted foliage from the same die set cut from Silver Foil.

When placing the elements inside the box, leave sufficient space for the corners to fold in

I used the Labels To Love stamp set with Shaded Spruce and Real Red inks on the Layering Circles die cut that I adhered to the centre of the frame and then added a bow made from Real Red Mixed Satin ribbon.
