Bloomin' Love - Watercolour Lifting

Having recently seen Jennifer McGuire's great video on watercolour lifting with heat embossing - I thought I'd give it try - because I love the beautiful soft effect.

SU, watercolour lifting with heat embossing, Botanical Builder, Bloomin' Love
The greeting is from the Best Thoughts stamp set

So this is my attempt.  I had only seen the video once and was working from memory  (always dangerous at my age!) and didn't get it quite right.  However, I'm not unhappy with the result.

I used Shimmery White cardstock and sponged on random splodges of colour - Rose Red, Elegant Eggplant and Pear Pizzazz.  Then I clear heat embossed the heart from Bloomin' Love.  Instead of brushing with water and dabbing dry - as shown by Jennifer - I wiped the ink with some damp kitchen paper.

I layered the card then added the Botanical Builder die cuts.  I think the Bloomin' Love strip looks a bit like a brocade (or grandma's curtains!) and I really like it.  I used the Metal Rimmed Pearls as flower centres because I thought pearls would match with the look of brocade.

To celebrate International Women's Day, I'm giving this card to my friends at Soroptimist International of the Hills District - a very dedicated and kind group of ladies who do so much for their local community as well as for women and girls around the globe.

'Til next time
Stephanie

  2. Thanks, Satomi! Sponging the flower adds some depth and "movement" doesn't it?
